1. Use within 3 months. Store decals in a dust-free room and do not set anything on top of box. Avoid humid conditions; store in a refrigerator.
2. Apply to clean dry finish. Do not sand finish prior to applying decal because it creates a fine layer of dust which will impair adhesion. Do not use a tack rag on the finish. Decal will not adhere to a waxed fallboard.
3. Remove the backing sheet and save for step # 7.
4. Tape decal in desired spot. Check alignment with ruler and bottom of lettering (not the cut edge of the plastic), being careful not to put pressure on the decal with fingers.
5. Rub off decal. Use a flat broad end burnishing instrument ½” to ¾” wide. Hold burnishing tool at 45 degree angle to decal while burnishing off. Pay attention not to miss small letters or intricate detail.
6. Remove carrier sheet slowly, rubbing in front of lifted portion - this is especially important with larger soundboard decals - not usually necessary with fallboard decals. Check to see if any portion remains on the carrier sheet; if that is the case re-burnish that area while still taped in place.
7. Burnish again with backing sheet (kept from step 3) Place backing sheet on top of decal and burnish again to insure maximum adhesion.
8. Finish over decal. This is recommended to protect the decal from fingernails of aggressive players or small children. If possible, the surface to which you apply the finish should be in a horizontal position.
• SPRAYED-ON FINISH Spray on sealer or lacquer, using a couple of very light mist coats. Allow to dry thoroughly. Continue to finish as you normally would.
• BRUSHED-ON FINISHBrush on shellac, urethane, or other type of finish using as few strokes as possible. A foam brush is recommended because it creates less agitation. Allow the finish to dry thoroughly. Do not apply varnish directly to decal. When using varnish we recommend sealing the decal in with a coat of shellac. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying varnish coat.
